Guided by words, phrases, poems, and prose drawn from multicultural sources, this class unfolds in a series of short prompted drawing sessions that encourage intuitive and improvisational mark making.
Wen-hao Tien, MPH, MFA is an artist and educator living in Cambridge, MA. Her studio practice is rooted in language and cross-cultural observations. She notices what many do not see, and her multi- disciplinary work, as well as her collaborative work, brings out narratives of our changing societies, and life-in-flux.

In this class you will explore the basic movements and rhythms of Vernacular Jazz, a collection of dances created in the African-American communities during the late 1800’s through mid 1900’s, to jazz and swing music. The term Vernacular Jazz or Authentic Jazz Dancing is used as a way to distinguish itself from the modern dancing and Ballet-connected “modern” jazz dance movement that started more and more to take over the term ‘jazz dance’.

Creative Dance for Kids introduces young children to the art of dance using patterns, movement words, music and storytelling. Haitian Folkloric rhythms and movements are woven into the class in a child-friendly fashion. During class, the students explore a different theme from social justice topics through age-appropriate literature, conversation, and movement. Past and future themes include kindness, acceptance, noticing and appreciating differences, identity, standing up against injustice, and love.

"Exhale with The Click” is a mindful movement series designed for all bodies and movers. Pulling from The Click's collective experiences as somatic practitioners and contemporary dancers, the class will offer rest for the mind, release for the body, and an opportunity to connect the two through a combination of guided improvisations, center technique combinations, and community-built micro-choreographies. It is recommended to go barefoot or wear cotton socks. Please bring water.
