November Meetings & Events

We have held community meetings to gather input on considerations for the use of each program space at the Foundry, prioritized in order of technical complication.  The first series of meetings focused on flexible performance space since it has the most complicated design/construction requirements. This was followed by discussions about the makerspace.  We’re now seeking input on the design of the spaces that will be used specifically for non-performance-based arts in the Foundry.

Public Meeting about Arts in the Foundry
In this meeting we will review several concepts for how the space will be used (e.g., a mix of private studios and shared co-working spaces for artists).  As time permits, and in future meetings, we will discuss arts programming including: the potential for artists-in-residence; ways to prioritize the use of space if the space is over-subscribed; and gathering new ideas about the community’s needs and wants regarding the arts.

The Foundry Consortium is hosting a meeting to help interested parties to learn from the Cambridge Arts about the artist selection process that will be used to determine the three finalists in late October and one final concept proposal by February 2019. Attendees will be able to offer suggestions for factors to be considered by the Art Jury as they select three finalists from the registry. The Foundry Consortium meeting details are as follows:

October 2, 2018
9:00 – 10:00 a.m
Cambridge Redevelopment Authority

Guests will be required to check-in at the front desk and names must be in the security system, so attendees should RSVP to Zoe Vanderschmidt in advance at zoev@mit.edu.

The Foundry Consortium will be hosting a second meeting the evening of January 7, 2019 (time and location to be determined) to showcase the three finalists’ concept proposals and to gather input for consideration by the Selection Committee being formed and convened by Cambridge Arts.
